I searched for #6848 for 40 years. I finally got the records from the MN Historical Society. The records are available if you know the procedure to view them. The records are very detailed as they seemed to document everything. Here are some of the things I found in #6848 (Joseph) Family history of why the children were sent to the school School grades Medical issues Placements The most significant thing I found were many letters sent to the school from Joseph's mother trying to get her children back. Here is the story in brief. Two children were taken from the mother 11- 1- 1922 as her husband had just died one year earlier. Joseph was 4 and his sister was 2. His sister was placed out soon after they arrived. Joseph stayed 10 years. Joseph sister never new of her mother as she was placed out but never adopted and because she was placed out the school would never tell her mother anything about were she was except that she was doing well. The letters are the original hand written letters. The mother wrote many times once sent money for candy. Once sent money for pictures. The school records state the mother writes often asking for her children to be sent home. The exciting thing about my search as this Little girl is now 88 years old and she will have the chance to read these letters and for the first time she will know her Mother Loved and wanted her home.
